The Sentries was the first Sentinel mailing list. It was originally called "The Sentinel General Interest List." [1]

It was an all-ages discussion list. Fiction, slash, and adult discussion were off-limits; posts were to be kept to a PG-13 rating or less. A fan remembers: "When I joined Sentries (the only TS list at the time), no fanfic had been written yet." [2]

Introduction

Welcome to "The Sentries" we are a listserve for the discussion of the UPN television series "The Sentinel". I started an e-mail discussion group in mid-May of 96' by contacting a few people on AOL who had posted to the 'Sentinel' board. We started with three people (including myself) and within three months, after putting the info. on the web, we had 20 people. I then began the listserve here in mid August.

We want to get to know you. I hope you become an active member of the group but if you just wish to lurke then go right ahead. You can start by introducing yourself : Age, where you live, profession, other TV shows you like, what you like about "The Sentinel", whatever you wish.

1. We will avoid as much as possible the one-line "Hi" posts, discussions of weather, and other such mundane items. Again, there is nothing WRONG with such comments but one of the problems with a list is high volume and such messages just clog up people's mailboxes at a time when they are probably busy. You can of course talk about your personal lives (we are here to get to know each other). I was on a listserve where members were sending a little "Hi" or a short note to one person in the group but sending it to the entire group. If you have something to say to just one person ( that is not meant for the entire group) please send it to just them.

2. No flaming whatsoever of any kind. It is not necessary to personally attack people who disagree with you. I feel strongly about this.

3. We don't need a "____ is so sexy" and detailing of whoever's physical attributes. While there is nothing wrong with such commentary, we just aren't going to obsess about it here. Richard, Garett, and Bruce are all good looking men but just don't obsess ladies. We are in mixed company and I don't think the guys want to here it.

4. Please no foul language, sexually explicit language or slash discussions. This is a 'general' list and there are under age subscribers. Also, some of us on the listserve do not like it such discussions.

5. Please refrain from using all capitals in your posts. Caps should be used for EMPHASIS. All caps. are harder to read. Also, it is known as SHOUTING and considered impolite.

God Bless, Sandra Hurlburt, Listowner/Listmom[3]
