Scotty McCreery is an American country music singer. He won the tenth season of American Idol on May 25, 2011.

Throughout the course of the American Idol show Scotty and fellow contestant Lauren Alaina became a popular topic of conversation as two young country artists who performed multiple duets throughout the show. Infact, the two were even rumored to be dating. After the show they both confirmed those rumors to be false, but their ship McLaina was popular none the less. Scotty won season 10 and Lauren was runner up.

Scotty has his own fandom known as the McCreerians. This group is known as one of the most active fan bases in country music. Within the McCreerians there are various sub groups such as Grandma's for Scotty.

How the Fandom Came to Be

Scotty McCreery auditioned for American Idol in Milwaukee, WI at the age of 16. He immediately won over the judges, and the hearts of Americans with his deep country voice, his southern charm and his boy next store appearance. Even none country music fans were cheering for the young high school boy from Garner, North Carolina. What makes American Idol unique is that it relies on fans. The judges pick the top 24 contestants, and after that America votes to decide who will stay each week. Being the winner of season 10, Scotty clearly was able to establish a large committed following throughout the show. These diehard Scotty fans were invested in him, helping him continue his success and ultimate victory on the show. Naturally these fans stuck with him after American Idol and formed a fandom; the McCreerians. This fandom has only grown since Scotty first went on tour with American Idol Live! 2011 witch spanned from June to September of that year. Following that he would open for Brad Paisley on his Virtual Reality tour in 2012 before headlining his own See You Tonight tour in 2013. Getting out and meeting more and more people has caused the fandom to exponentially grow as people see first hand what a great singer, entertainer and all around role model Scotty is. Through it all, it is important to remember that the roots of Scotty's fandom are in his American Idol experience.

The Fans Continue to Be Heard

Scotty's fans are used to voting for their favorite country guy. As a result, since winning the show Scotty has done exceedingly well on the music charts as well as with fan voted awards.

Scotty's first single was released upon winning American Idol. "I Love You This Big" was an instant hit entering the Country Billboards at 32, the highest debut single for a country artist since the 1990's. The song was certified gold August 25, 2011. The music video for this song was released on August 9, 2011. On October 4, 2011 Scotty released his debut album, Clear as Day which included his debut single "I Love You This Big" as well his single "The Trouble With Girls." Scotty made history with this album as he was the first ever country artist to debut No.1 Billboard 200 with his first album. He was also the youngest man to debut at the top of the chart. These records both appeared in the 2013 Guinness Book of World Records. These records were only possible for Scotty because of his fan voted success on American Idol.

2012 was the year of Christmas music for Scotty. His fans wanted Christmas music from their All-American boy so, Scotty released his Christmas album "Christmas with Scotty McCreery" on Oct 16, 2012. The fans loved it, with it debuting No.4 on Billboard 200. The album was certified gold on Nov 26, 2012. On the album are nine holiday classics and two originals entitled "Christmas in Heaven" and "Christmas Comin' Round Again." There was a continued demand from the McCreerians for Scotty to perform his new Christmas music allowing him even more exposure to the public eye. McCreerians were vocal about that and as a result, the media responded by giving Scotty many national performance opportunities. Scotty had the opportunity to perform at the Christmas in Rockefeller Center special broadcast, CMA Country Christmas Show on ABC and at the Christmas in Washington gala which was attended by the president. .

On October 15, 2013 Scotty released his sophomore album "See You Tonight." He released two singles from the album including "See You Tonight" and "Feelin It." "See You Tonight" was Scotty's first song to hit the top 10 on Billboards Hot Country Songs chart. When "Feelin It" was released as a single in April 2014 it debuted at number 54 on the country airplay chart later moving into the top ten.

Scotty's most recent single "Southern Belle" was released August 17, 2015 with an album expected spring of 2017.

Scotty is able to continue to keep making music because the fans demand it. They request it to be played on the radio stations drawing in even more listeners. McCreerians also do a great job of keeping Scotty's music popular through sharing it on social media and getting Scotty nominated for and winning various awards. After all, American Idol proved that McCreerians love to vote!

The Concert Experience

Before Scotty's concerts fan club members get an exclusive meet and greet with Scotty. This includes a picture with him and an autographed 8x10 photo. Even just this brief interaction is always special for McCreerians.

The opening track on Scotty's sophomore album, "See You Tonight," is titled "Now." This pump up song is what Scotty uses to open all of his concerts. When fans hear the opening guitar lick the adrenaline rush sets in as Scotty is seconds away from appearing on stage. "I Love You This Big," Scotty's first single, is also one of many highlights at his shows. This song is special because it connects on many levels to a wide variety of fans. The song can be taken more romantically as a ballad being sung to your significant other. It can also be taken as family love talking about the unconditional love parents have for their children. Another common thought process is that the lyrics are talking about Jesus Christ's love for all of humanity in dying on the cross for the sins of this world. However fans choose to interpret the song, it is always a special moment in the show. Fans of all ages can be seen mirroring Scotty in standing with their arms stretched open wide just as the lyrics say. Another favorite experience of his shows is when he sings a song from his first album, "Clear as Day" titled "Write My Number on Your Hand." During this song fans rush the stage in hopes that during the bridge Scotty will write his fan club phone number on their hand in black sharpie. Another fan favorite is "Feelin It." This summer anthem is typically used as the closing song at Scotty's concerts complete with giant beach balls flying around the audience.
