There's a popular meme regarding Scarlett where in people will jokingly refer to her as part of a marginalised group she isn't actually a part of. Most often, and originally, the meme refers to her as East Asian, based off her casting as Motoko Kusanagi in the 2017 live-action film adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. The meme was fuelled further by Johansson's initial casting as a trans man in the film Rub and Tug, though she later withdrew.
