Sarah Jacobs is a supporting character in the film Newsies, replaced in the stage musical with Katherine Plumber. Her primary role is as Jack Kelly's love interest. In the original script, she was intended to play a larger role, being written as a socialist activist.
Canon
Sarah only appears in the Newsies film, as her character is merged to create Katherine Plumber in the stage show. She appears to work as a seamstress. In the original script, she is a socialist.

Hate
Sarah is generally regarded as the most hated character in the Newsies fandom, frequently regarded as annoying and even, as one fan put it, an "air headed bimbo."[1][2][3][4] One fan even complained that she "talks like a man."[5] Some fans went as far as to say they hated her actor, Ele Keats,[6] and one fan site hosted a Sarah Haters Union.[7] The former resulted in a small slapfight.[8]
She was not entirely hated, with one early fansite dedicating a page to reasons they thought she was "nifty."[9] Later, in 2009, a small Fanfiction.net community called Saving Sarah was "dedicated to the exploration of Sarah Jacobs instead of the blind hatred & bashing."[10] Generally, she's regarded more positively in the current fandom, although she still appears in very few fanworks.[11][12]
Family
As Sarah's age is never mentioned in canon, her relationships with her brothers are entirely headcanon-based. She and David are popularly written as twins, but this is not prevalent enough to be fanon.
