SAO Pride Week is an annual fan week with challenge prompts for LGBTQ+ ships and headcanons in the Sword Art Online fandom. It was originally created by Tumblr user ringforcynthia in April 2019 as a one-time event, but it was continued by aj_linguistik and redbluezero to be an annual event held during Pride month.
The event welcomes fan creations of all kinds, including fanfiction, fanart, fan edits, meta posts, shared headcanons, and more.

Rules
From the SAO Pride Week AO3 Collection:
Rules1. Content must be relevant to the fanweek's overarching theme: LGBTQ+ ships/headcanons.
2. Incest/pedophillic/abusive/non-con entries will not be permitted.
3. NSFW will be permissible so long as it is properly tagged, both on AO3 and on the site it is shared on for social media.
4. Straight ships are permitted so long as they include an element such as a transgender partner, an asexual partner, or bisexual/pansexual partner. Please DM our social media if you require clarification.
5. Individual fics are encouraged enable comment moderation to permit the removal of inappropriate/hateful comments so that readers of the collection do not have to see them.
6. Be respectful as a writer and as a reader/commentor! This should be a safe space![2]

SAO Pride Week 2019
Fans participating in the first SAO Pride Week operated solely on Tumblr by sharing fanart posts and links to their fanfiction hosted on other sides or Tumblr-style fanfiction posts. Fanfiction which was posted to AO3 was later added to the SAO Pride Week 2019 Collection during the organization of the following event. The original week was from April 8-15, featuring an eight-day week.

SAO Pride Week 2020
Under new moderation, the fan week opened up submissions on Twitter as well as Tumblr and created organized collections for fanfiction entries on AO3 for the previous year and for 2020. This second run of the event shortened the week to seven days and provided dual prompt challenges for fans instead of single prompts. NSFW submissions were also allowed, provided proper tagging was employed. The dates for this fan week were August 9-15.

SAO Pride Week 2021
For its third run, moderation moved the fan week to a set of dates within Pride month in order to establish a yearly time frame for the event. Polls was held on social media to vote for prompts to better encourage fandom interaction. The dates of the fan week were July 13-19.
