Roadhog/Junkrat, also known as Roadrat, is a popular Overwatch ship. It gained popularity due to the characters' in-game shared history, and due to an Overwatch comic featuring them entitled 'Going Legit'.

Canon

Junkrat is an Australian criminal, who has gone somewhat insane due to being around radiation for too long. He stole a large (but unknown) treasure, and recruited Roadhog to be his bodyguard. In canon they are friendly towards each other, and share many sprays[1] and voice lines. During the Christmas Event, Roadhog got a new skin which included a small sticker on his gun reading 'From Junkrat'.[2]

Roadhog/Junkrat is not explicitly canon, although some fans believe it is hinted at.

Fandom

Many fans ship Roadhog/Junkrat because they are a duo in the game's lore. Their rich history together in the Australian Outback and doing crime across the globe makes for a perfect backdrop in fanart and fanfiction. As well as this, fans of the ship noted that a while after the game came out, the attitudes of Junkrat and Roadhog changed slightly. At the game's release, most voice lines between the two were hostile or neutral. However, the 2016 Christmas event brought shared sprays, allusions to Junkrat on Roadhog's 'Rudolph' skin, and a positive voice line interaction.[3] This led to more people shipping Roadrat, with some debating whether or not it was canon.

Popular topics for Roadhog/Junkrat fanfiction include angst and hurt/comfort. A popular headcanon in fanworks is trans!Junkrat.

Some people are against the ship due to the characters' age gap (Junkrat is 25 and Roadhog is 48).[4][5][6]
