Revia is a gen Doctor Who club zine of articles, reviews and fiction. While issues start at "v.2," there is no "v.1."

V.2 N.1

Revia v.2 n.1 (Issue #1) was published in April 1993 and contains 20 pages. It was edited by Jayson Newey, Wil Roysdon, and Mark Stanfa. Contributors: Dorothy Kulawiak, Jayson Newey, Nancy Schuetz, and Wil Roysdon.

"Chicken and the Egg: Was the second volume of Revia created for the newly-formed Chronicles of Who, or was the club formed as a means to produce the new fanzine? The sad truth was a mix of both. Club founders Jay and Wil always had the revival of Revia as a core reason for creating the club, but it was far from their only reason.

Issue one was originally supposed to be released in March of 1993, but an early runaround with an extra pair of editors postoned the first issue of the new volume. Time has lost to us the authorship of many of the articles in the first several issues of this volume, and consequently have the editors given the credit. However, being a first issue, most of the articles were written by the editors." [1]

V.2 N.2

back cover of v.2 n.2

Revia v.2 n.2 (Issue #2) was published in June 1993 and contains 23 pages. Edited by Jayson Newey, Wil Roysdon.

"The second issue of Revia was again written almost entirely by the editors. The sole club contribution was that of a postcard drawn by Bartek Bachledie. It would prove to be his only contribution to the series, and the only postcard attempted.

The wraparound cover was devised as a direct parody of Doctor Who Magazine's multi-Doctor gatefold cover, used on their 200th issue. Hence, the deliberate scratching-out of the word 'Hundred' on our cover." [2]

Revia v.2 n.4 (Issue #4) was published in September 1993 and contains 24 pages. It was edited by Jayson Newey, Wil Roysdon, Mike Quintero.

"Things began getting silly in earnest with Issue Four: the cover featured companions that were due to be examined in the following issue (and the cover admitted as much); the news column had an item about a new fan-video entitled 'Revia in an Exciting Adventure with Video'; the title of the new 'Legend of the Hand' installment contained editor Jay's home phone number (backwards); the cover exclaimed 'Billions and Billions Served!', when in fact we had a circulation of less than 100 (at this point).

Useless Trivia: Jim Snyder's 'Altered Realities', which made its bow in this issue, would be the only serialized fiction to ever fully reach its conclusion in Revia." [3]

Revia v.2 n.5 (Issue #5) was published in October 1993 and contains 28 pages. It was edited by Jayson Newey, Wil Roysdon, Mike Quintero.

"The Revia staff filled out nicely with the additions of Mike Albiniak and Gregg Allinson in Issue Five. Gregg would write some of the most outrageous and controversial artivles to grace the fanzine, while Mike would usually serve as light entertainment during heavy editing sessions.

Jim's 'Pertwee Must Die' article was a more serious take on a subject that would find itself on the cover of issue Ten. Apparently most Club members of the time thought that Pertwee would die at Visions '93, although others guessed 1994, 1995, and 1997. No votes for 1996, though....

Useless Trivia: People used to ask us where we got our news scoops, including the Issue Five cover-grabbing headline about The Highlanders and The Macra Terror being found. In fact, we were getting our information off of internet newsgroups, some 2-3 years before Netscape introduced the world to the web browser. Kinda figures that our headline was proven false then, no?" [4]

Revia v.2 n.6. (Issue #6) was published in December 1993 and contains 28 pages. It was edited by Jayson Newey, Wil Roysdon, Mike Quintero.

"In honor of the 30th Anniversary of Doctor Who, Issue Six devotes many of its pages to reviewing the junk that was released to milk the 30th Aniversary for what it was worth (and more). We also paid homage to the Grande Event by petitioning WTTW to bring the show back on-air, as evidenced in this issue's Misdirected Mail.

Truth be told, much of this issue's mindless reviews were slated due to a deliberate creative focus on the Year End Special, which was being written concurrently with Issue Six and was published a scant fou weeks later." [5]

1993 Year End Special

cover of year end special

Revia Year End Special v.2 was published in 1993 and contains 31 pages. It was edited by Jayson Newey, Wil Roysdon, Mike Quintero. Contributors include: Brian Kimmel, Gregg Allinson, Jayson Newey, Jim Snyder, Mike Quintero, and Wil Roysdon.

"The 1993 Year End Special was usually considered by the Revia staff to be the best of the entire series. Published with the aim of selling tons of copies at Visions '93, the YES was loaded with fun articles of facts and fiction, with none of the filler reviews that tended to weigh down the regular issues.

Making his bow in the YES was Brian Kimmel (miscredited as Brian Kimball) with what would arguably be the centerpieces of the issue, the fullsized poster and the 'Race for the Dematerialisation Circuit' game. The game came complete with clip-out batteries, directions on how to make your own loaded die, and precicely one 'JN-T Note' (money used in the game).

'Night of the Living Dead Doctors' seemed really, really funny when we wrote it and would still probably make a damned fine cartoon today." [6]

V.2 N.7

Revia v.2 n. 7 (Issue #7) was published in January 1994 and contains 28 pages. It was edited Jayson Newey, Wil Roysdon, and Mike Quintero. Contributors: Gregg Allinson, Jayson Newey, Jim Snyder, Keith Lipinski and Wil Roysdon.

"The dawning of 1994 brought a number of stylistic changes to Revia, although it would take few issues for the new designs to be perfected. 1994 also saw the beginning of burnout in the Revia crew, as chronicled in this month's 'The Editors at Work' column. The damage to this issue would be somewhat minor (the 'Apology' instead of a Visions '93 review), but toll of the burnout would soon exponentiate...

The 'Youthful Innocence' series which began in this issue is usually seen as one of the best in Revia's second run, although its author is still rather embarassed by it.

Dimensions In Time, having just been screened at Visions '93, would become the 'target of choice' in Revia from here till the fanzine's demise. DIT (as the anniversary special derisively became known) would still be the butt of jokes in 2000's SpackOff!" [7]

V.2 N.8

Revia v.2 n.8 (Issue #8) was published in March 94 and contains 28 pages. It was edited by Jayson Newey, Wil Roysdon, and Mike Quintero. Contributors: Gregg Allinson, Jayson Newey, Jim Snyder, Keith Lipinski, Mike Quintero and Wil Roysdon.

"By all outward appearances, Issue Eight saw Revia return to form. Behind the scenes, however, the chaos encountered with Issue Seven was becoming ever-more complicated. Jay and Wil had their hands full attempting to secure a new place for the club to meet, since Chronicles Bookshop had decided to close its doors without any serious notice. Additionally, the Revia Radio Show began broadcasting weekly on WKDI-AM as this issue was being put together. Hosted by Wil, Jay, and Jim (with guest appearances by others on the staff), the show featured a mix of bad music and Who-related discussions. Editor Mike did a fantastic job at taking up the slack on this issue; a fact which would not escape his notice...

It was decided to center an issue around Colin Baker because we felt him to be a terribly nice guy who'd gotten shafted. Just why Gregg decided to drag Gareth Jenkins into it remains unknown, but we were more than happy to let him have his way with the center pages." [8]

V.2 N.9

cover of v.2 n.9

Revia n.2 v.9 (Issue #9) was published in May 1994 and contains 28 pages. It was edited by Jayson Newey, Wil Roysdon, and Mike Quintero. Contributors: Dorothy Kulawiak, Gregg Allinson, Jayson, Jim Snyder and Wil Roysdon.

"Having found the Chronicles of Who a new home in Graham Crackers Comics, things settled down for the Revia crew and Issue Nine mirrors the newly relaxed atmosphere. Filled with such inventive silliness as the DIT finger puppets and the Colin Baker Flip-Book, as well as Gregg's masterpiece of insanity (DIT - the Early Years), Revia appeared to be headed for something big. Revia had been given a rather savage review by Amanda Murray in DWB 124, but we just took a quote from it and wore it as a badge of pride on the cover of Issue Nine.

Issue Nine called for a boycott of 800-TREKKER for, amongst other things, not publishing the number of FDW Newsletters per year that they'd advertised. Who'd guess that the very same problem would shortly hit Revia...?

Useless Trivia: We laid claim to having helped deaf reader Greg Brown in his campaign to get CBS/Fox to Close-Caption more video releases, when in fact we had done no such thing. The poor guy thought we had far more pull in Who-dom than we really had, and we couldn't face telling him the truth. Besides, we'd already done stuff with Revia that guaranteed us a trip to Hell...." Revia v.2 n.10 (Issue #10) was published in July 1994 and contains 28 pages. Editors were Jayson Newey, Wil Roysdon, and Mike Quintero. Contributors: Brian Kimmel, Gregg Allinson, Jayson Newey, Jim Snyder, Keith Lipinski and Wil Roysdon.

"Issue Ten was loaded with ambition. We presented our readers with the first Revia poll, gave them the first Revia comic strip, and devised a photo-shoot for the 'Pertwee Is Dead' center-spread. Heck, we even came up with another part to Jay's long- forgotten story, 'Legend of the Hand'. Yep, Issue Ten was certainly loaded with ambition.

Unfortunately, the sinister, medieval definition of 'ambition' also came into play during the creation of this issue. A long-brewing rift between editors Mike and Jay finally broke wide open, leaving Wil to choose between the two of them. Jay offered to invest in several thousand dollars' worth of new computer equipment for future Revia, so it was decided to move the production of Revia after Issue Ten.

Useless Trivia: This, the final issue of Revia, ended in a cliffhanger." [10]
