Why in the world would one want to write stories that take place in Middle-Earth when there are perfectly good tales in Professor Tolkien's wonderful books? Because I'm very selfish, that's why! To my way of thinking there were too many chapters in which the good Professor only wrote a sentence or two (or perhaps a paragraph) about a scene that I wanted him to spend at least a couple of pages on! For example, the seventeen years between the time Bilbo left Frodo the Ring on the mantelpiece in Bag End, and Frodo, Sam, and Pippin set off for Crickhollow. I want to hear about those years! I've been very fortunate in that I've been able to find some truly excellent stories that take place during that time period. And one day I'd like to try my own hand at doing the same. But alas, I am a very slow writer, so for the time being I only have one vignette and a poem to offer you. I am working on two other stories (one is a Merry and Pippin story set after the Quest), so this little story will not be alone forever.
