2024 Resurgence
Criticism
Much of the criticism surrounding the campaign is centred around the 2024 resurgence in relation to its timing with the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and the actions of OFMD fans in comparison to their actions for the crisis, with much of said criticism coming directly from Palestinians.

Currently thinking about Nauta’s post and the way that fandoms are increasingly using revolution inspired rhetoric and throwing themselves into inconsequential movements as a means to romanticise fighting for a cause and to feel like they are a part of an actual revolution because that is far easier and more black and white than having to shut up and show up and do research and be uncomfortable and accept their privilege and look at things that scare them and do things that scare them and put actual energy into fighting to help real people[1]

I just think that maybe if you are willing to organize mass emails to hbo over a television show you like you should maybe organize mass emails to your mp/congress reps to tell them to stop funding genocide[2]
Some fans even criticised Palestinians themselves, as well as other folks from the SWANA region, including sending anon asks on Tumblr defending the campaign.
Weird how I can say whatever about OFMD and not get harassed, but when anyone who is not white/American and especially anyone Palestinian says anything, they get 400 ridiculous nuisances in their asks being obnoxious.[3]

These fans thinking they have any right whatsoever to police Palestinians calling them out on this bullshit... The most heartless motherfuckers I've seen in fandoms in a long while[4]
One instance of poor fan behaviour involved commenting about saving OFMD on an unrelated social media post advertising The Nikki Giovanni Project, a documentary film about Black Arts Movement author Nikki Giovanni.[5]
