Reactions and Reviews
Mona's pointedly short stories are proof that, indeed, size doesn't matter, but I have a love/hate relationship with them. They have a timid tone in spots, with romance-novel terms such as "laving" and "kissed him thoroughly" emasculating some of the erotic moments and rendering them, for me, curiously unscxy. Apart from (hat, however, this Napoleon-has-amnesia tale is told with affection and insight. Illya's interior life is given a good searching here, without falling to the angsty excesses that too often sabotage the effect of such attempts. The means Illya uses to coax Napoleon's memory out of hiding are comradely and awfully pleasant to observe. One such scene contains one of the nicest off-the-cuff moments to be found in File 40:He watched' with a bemused half-smile as Napoleon threw open his closet doors, staring open-mouthed at the riches inside. The closet was full to bursting with clothing. "These are all mine?" Illya nodded. "Yes." "A bit much, don't you think?"
This is a story thai has a point to make, makes it, and gives off a nice glow into the bargain. It will repay your attention.[1]
