Remember Remus is a Star Trek: DS9 story by Lasher.
Reactions and Reviews
I love reading this story. What a wonderful look at Julian Bashir's last big secret. I love the flashbacks to Julian's childhood experience on one of the Romulan homeworlds, and all the fun he had with the best childhood friend he ever had. And the present day stuff is even better. Bashir's continued suffering in the aftermath of his return to the station from the Dominion prison camp and the reactions to his genetic status revelations (neither of which the show chose to explore which even to this day annoys me to no end, grrrr!) But Lasher did a great job in forcing Julian to deal with all that had happened to him in such a short span of time, and having this one last secret come along and be the Romulan that broke the doc's back. Two scenes that really stand out in my mind were Bashir's "interview" with Nevin which proved to be an unflinching account of life in the internment camp, and the later scene in Sisko's office with Sisko, Odo, Worf (the jerk!), and Bashir in which Bashir has finally had enough of being picked on. Oh and I mustn't forget the scene where Sisko goes off on Worf. I've been dreaming of such a scene since the day they unleased the Klingon from hell on my poor little DS9 and I enjoyed it so tremendously I almost lept out of my chair to cheer upon first reading. Like I said, I really love reading this story. [1]
An intense, and dark, story of friendship and betrayal. As if Bashir didn't already have enough skeletons in his closet, Lasher drags out yet one more. The look of shock on Nevin's face when Bashir starts going off about the cattle prods during his interrogation is worth the price of admission, alone. You definitely won't read *that* in profic. [2]
This is everything they left out of the show. We have the reaction of people on the station, cancelling appointments in masse. We have Julian Bashir's childhood and the moment he learned he must never share his secret. We have the leftovers of his imprisonment by the Jem'Hadar. We've yet to see Julian actually *talk* about what happened in the first weeks except when bagered into it. We even have Worf finally get his comuppance. Despite a few details that were different than the show (three months vrs 5 weeks) this is another one which would have made a great profic. [3]
