RE8EL SPECIAL: 18+ - 'Shangri La Love'(!) - 76 pages. In my work, I get to read and review a lot of materials, both on film and written, and it is always a pleasure to come across a writer who has command of the English language, a vibrant imagination and flair, combined with enthusiasm. This is one of the reasons why I despair when I come across 'zines' such as this one. I have thought about ways in which I could describe this accurately, but decided that in doing so, I might encourage people to buy this out of sheer curiosity - 'could it REALLY be that bad?!

In my opinion, the reasons for this zine's existance [sic] is to publicly air the personal fantasies of the author. No harm in that, you might think, but this particular volume takes characters and warps them out of all possible recognition, mingles the action with material carefully researched in the pages of Junior Hustler (and probably a few grapphic [sic] and clinical sex-manuals) and with a storyline incredible even in the realms of Science Fiction. It has the sort of presentation that makes you feel painfully embarrassed for all involved (including the writer). I have to assume, by the spelling mistakes, that it was even too much for the proof reader to take.

If you really do feel the urge to find out for yourself, I suggest you find someone who has already parted with their hard earned cash, and borrow it; donating the money to some worthy cause. I have the sneaky feeling that somewhere towards the end of the story there may be a prize for the strongest stomach - for the first reader to actually finish reading it. If so, I can truthfully say that I don't stand a chance of winning.
