From an Ad
Usually, Jean-Luc Picard relished learning new cultures. However, things are different when the Enterprise is sent to negotiate peace with the Z'ntau. Picard had encountered the Z'ntau many years ago while commandeering the Stargazer. The first contact had not gone well, and battle ensued resulting in the last of Picard's tactical officer, Jack Crusher. The impending mission forces Picard and his chief medical offer (sic), Beverly Crusher, to face memories of that tragic event. The Z'ntau are sincere in their goals for peace, however, their culture demands that peace come with a price, one Picard may have to pay for with his life. [1]
From the Author's Preface
Set near the end of the fifth season of Star Trek: The Next Generarion, this novella is my attempt to make up for Doctor Beverly Crusher's virtual lack of development. And though I do not claim to understand all the technical points of the Star Trek universe, I hope this offering pleased Next Gen fans, especially those loyal followers of the good doctor. This work "boldly goes" where none of the writers wished to go throughout the many seasons of TNG. It delves into the many blurry areas of Beverly's personal life, such as her childhood, her marriage to and inevitable loss of Jack Crusher...ever her continually enigmatic relationship with Captain Picard.
