Rx McCoy is a gen and het Star Trek: TOS 40-page anthology of fiction by Lorraine Beatty.

The art is by Becky Morton.

It is a McCoy-centric and focuses on his love life, "centering around the women in his life -- Nancy, Tonia, Natira, as well as a new acquaintance that the could doctor could do without!" [1]

All but two of these stories is also in McCoy's Illegible Log.

Contents

  • The Rayne Tree ("McCoy meets a treasured friend from long ago. In the course of their conversation he learns a secret she has kept for all those years. A secret that could have drastically changed the doctor's life.") (also in McCoy's Illegible Log #5) (2)
  • Even Now ("Nancy Crater meets the last of the salt creatures in the form of Leonard McCoy.") (also in McCoy's Illegible Log #5) (9)
  • One Life ("McCoy returns to say a last, private farewell to Natira.") (also in McCoy's Illegible Log #5) (15)
  • Precious Days... And Magnolias ("Tanya Barrows and Leonard McCoy revive their feelings for each other following their time together on the Shore Leave planet.") (also in McCoy's Illegible Log #5) (20)
  • Till Death Do Us Part ("We share the thoughts of a young Arianna McCoy as she thinks of her love for her husband and the child she is carrying.") (28)
  • The Lark ("On the night before she will receive her first Starfleet assignment, a young ensign puts on something 'clingy and sexy' and sets out for the most renowned and expensive spot on the starbase. She is out far a lark. A lark that ultimately involves Leonard McCoy.") (also in McCoy's Illegible Log #5) (32)
  • A Nice Guy ("We see DeForest Kelley through the eyes of a young woman working with him on the filming of a movie.") (RPF) (37)

Reactions and Reviews

A collection of Lorraine's short stories focusing on romantic episodes in McCoy's life. Rather breathlessly gushy about the perfectly wonderful Leonard McCoy, but with a some interesting perspectives.
  • The Rayne Tree / McCoy meets up with his ex's sister, who helped him through the bitter divorce years before, and blindly castigates her mysterious lost love never realizing that, of course, it is himself.
  • Even Now / Nancy Crater, in a reverie of her happy year with McCoy, wanders away from camp and is confronted by the Salt Creature in Leonard's skin - who doesn't want to wait for her dose of salt. Gushy in the reminiscences, but a nicely chilling and believable ending.
  • One Life / McCoy's leave-taking from Natira. He has not yet discovered that the Fabrini records hold his cure. They both believe he is leaving to pursue the cure and will return to her someday. She chooses not to reveal her pregnancy to him. A sweet little vignette.
  • Precious Days... And Magnolias / A pair of reveries of McCoy's romance with Tonia Barrows on the Shore Leave planet - from each party's point of view. Rather nicely handled, especially McCoy surrendering his rule not to become involved aboard ship.
  • Till Death Do Us Part / Vignette of the pregnant Ariana obsessing over her wonderful husband.
  • The Lark / Nineteen-year-old new ensign with a crush on McCoy flirts with him, pretending to be much older, spends the night with him, then finds herself assigned to the Enterprise and regrets acting like a tramp. Far too much gush.
  • A Nice Guy / Vignette of De Kelley playing a rape scene in some cowboy show (character "Clay"). The point is simply to have the actress gush about what a nice guy he is. Personally, this is where I draw the line in fan fiction - I think we get to play with the characters however we wish, but fan fiction based on the actual people is an invasion of privacy I don't care for.
