Queen of Spades is a Bond/M story in which there's never any doubt who's in charge.
In her review, Speranza noted that, "The fact that M does not immediately strike one as a conventional sexual protagonist for fanfiction...is what makes the story work: M's sexuality is weaponized; the fact that we can't see it is what makes it--especially in world of secrets and spies and undercover operations--dangerous." Astolat's story turns "M's steel gray middle-aged body into a tremendous source of power," and recasts Bond as the superficial sex object... "[B]y the end, Bond wants to grow up to be her."[1]
