Prince of Vulcan is a gen 98-page Star Trek: TOS novel by Gloria Fry.

Summary

From Halliday's Zinedex: "In the mirror universe, Spock claims his heritage as prince of both Vulcan and Terran empires. His relationship with the now penitent Kirk goes through difficulties, and his bid to bring reform makes enemies who will stop at nothing to destroy him. This sequel to Shadows of the Mirror stands on its own."

Reactions and Reviews

"At last! Here is a sequel to Shadows of the Mirror (which was itself based on the episode Mirror, Mirror). And it's good. It's very good! At the front of the zine there is a single page resume, although the story can stand alone. There are two substantial subsections which establish the location of the main action, and two small subsections (about which 1 am saying nothing; I have no intention of spoiling the tension of the cliff-hangers) which begin and end the zine. On one level, the story is an action-adventure in which Spock is starting to try to unite his two empires: Earth and Vulcan. Despite assassination attempts and treachery, and even though he has the support of the Vulcan hierarchy, it's not at all certain that he will succeed. But by far the more interesting level is that of the developing relationship between Spock and Kirk. Both of them have their doubts and setbacks, and both of them are taken by surprise at the speed and intensity at which the bond of t'hy'la develops. And when Spock is kidnapped, Kirk's dual responsibilities as Captain of his ship and t'hy'la to the Prince of Vulcan are severely tested. But that is not all. There is one final, unexpected, test for Kirk... and to find out what it Is, and if Kirk Is successful, I'm afraid you're going to have to read the zine, as it's much too good to give even the smallest hint away....! This is, as always, a very well-constructed story. And, now that Gloria has really come to know her characters, the writing Is very fluent, with all the little nuances, character portrayals and interactions that make this such a satisfying zine to read. This is a thoroughly good read, especially if you Ve read and enjoyed earlier work by this author. There are three pieces of artwork (by Maggie Symon, Joanna McGrory and Raymond Sless). I like the two items that are used on the outside of the covers: Spock (+ beard) on the front, and Jim Kirk on the back. I hope my certainty that we will be meeting all these interesting people again, soon, is not misplaced! I, for one, will await the next instalment with interest. (Any ideas for a sequel should be sent to the author.) Prince of Vulcan by Gloria Fry has 98 pages (in an easy-to-read typesize), A4 format with a durable heat-bound spine" [1]
