Reactions and Reviews

Unknown Date

Jim and Blair meet a little later than in canon, around the time when Blair's apartment blew up because of the drug lab (and it seems the Switchman case didn't happen)... But what makes this AU different and what I really enjoyed was that Blair doesn't recognize Jim as a sentinel on sight, that we don't see Blair doing the whole "there was this guy Burton, the explorer not the actor, who wrote a monograph about how every village had a sentinel" routine yet again, that they don't think meeting the other has special significance at first, even though Jim is struggling with the new quality of his senses throughout the story. [1]

An AU of the start of the relationship between Jim and Blair. This works extremely well. I liked its immediacy, its handling of Jim's abilities, and its freshness. [2]

2002

"Primates" by grit kitty shows us the horror of being a Sentinel with out of control senses, every small thing around you magnified and pressing down on you at once. How much worse it is when you don't know you're a Sentinel and doctors can't figure out what's going wrong? grit kitty obviously gave a lot of thought to the things that could set him off--Jim's horror at all the dimensions a puff of shaving cream in his hand could have leaps to mind--and it pays off in this AU, putting you in his tormented head. Actually, in a way this story is all about the small things around you that creep on you without you knowing it, as Blair slowly insinuates himself into Jim's life without Jim realizing it or noticing how his senses are more bearable afterward. Jim and the original cop characters here also have a nice, believable chemistry, with the originals set up in small, deft flashes of characterization. [3]

2007

Is it possible to fall in love with a fic due to one line, one line that captures a character so insanely right?

"'I'm fine, just coming down." He mimed a plane landing with one hand."

And heck, this is the only Sentinel fic I know that has Blair doing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on Larry. [4]
