Pop-Up Fic appeared in comic book fandom, and was posted to mailing lists such as Outside the Lines. Pop-up fic got its name and premise from the VH-1 show "Pop-Up Video." During the show, random tidbits of information would "pop up" during music videos. [1]
Pop-up fic created "a very gentle but still funny sort of MSTing."
Some writers added warnings against both MST and pop-up fics to their headers. [2]
Now an obsolete term?
