Pokémon Crossing is a series of Pokémon/Animal Crossing crossover fanfiction. The series is a twist on the typical Animal Crossing x Pokémon crossover, in that instead of Pokémon characters as villagers who live in a small town, the Animal Crossing characters are residents in the Pokémon world. Another unique element about the main story is its focus on the animal residents rather than recurring NPCs like Tom Nook or Isabelle or K.K. Slider.

The main story takes place in the Hoenn region, following the plot of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire with elements of Emerald.

Summary

The main installment, Fly Me to the Moon, is a Hoenn journeyfic which follows the main characters traversing throughout the region. There's several side-installments, known as gaidens, which follow characters beyond the Fly Me to the Moon protagonists.

Differences from Both Canons

Animal Crossing

  • The villager/player/human character is removed from this adaptation, due to several reasons; humans being extinct in this universe, and the author wanting to focus on the animal residents instead.
  • Multiple characters get their names changed; Isabelle is known as Nurse Shizue, and there's multiple of her as she's the Nurse Joy counterpart. K.K Slider's legal name is Totakeke, his Japanese name. Kapp'n is still known as Kapp'n, but his real name is Kaisho Kobayashi. Grams' real name is Kanako.
  • Several characters have relationships different from canon. Tom Nook and Crazy Redd are exes, with Tom Nook being currently married to Sable. Multiple characters are related to each other, including Frank and Apollo, Klaus and Bluebear being uncle and niece, and Tank and Hornsby being twin brothers.

Pokémon

  • Some elements from the Hoenn-based games are removed. HMs are replaced with the Pokémon using normal moves on obstacles like rock walls or stiff cliffs. Mauville's Game Corner is removed due to the series being based on Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire instead of Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, while the Safari Zone went bankrupt and is abandoned (as a reference to later games not including the Safari Zone).
  • While most characters in the Hoenn games have a counterpart in the series, several don't. This includes Wally and his family, Brigette and Lanette, and the Trick Master. There's also no rival character who regularly battles the protagonist.
  • The PokéNav is cut out and replaced with the Rotom Phone from later installments.
  • Several Gym Leaders use Mega Evolution in their Gym Battles.
  • Multiple species not native to Hoenn live in the region. This includes a colony of aggressive Parasect and an abandoned Ursaring.

Fandom Tropes

Pokémon Crossing incorporates several popular fandom tropes in its writing.

Multiple characters in the series get last names. Some relate to their species (Sussex, Grenounille), country of origin (Haniwa, Chavignol), or are music references (Hawkwind, Pepper, Crossfire).

Pokémon Crossing features several LGBTQ+ characters through the series. Tom Nook is revealed to be bisexual, having formerly dated Crazy Redd, but currently married to Sable Able. Apollo and Frank are both gay, each of them having a male love interest (Apollo's being Wolfgang, who have a healthy relationship. Frank, however, was with Rooney before the two broke up due to Frank's trauma). Julian is bisexual as well, being incredibly loyal to Judy while hitting on Apollo as well. Celia is implied to be gay as well, following the pattern of her half-brothers.

Benedict, Tank, and Kidd are all bisexual, and enter a polyamorous relationship in one chapter.

Don Hawkwind, the main antagonist of Fly Me to the Moon, is a serial adulterer. Due to his hedonistic nature, he cheats multiple times on his wife, which results in him siring several illegitimate offspring across Hoenn.

Characters

  • Benedict Sussex. He's a hotblooded immigrant from Castelia City who moves to Hoenn and takes on the Pokémon League. His starter is a male Torchic named Jojo.
  • Tank Pepper. He's the native Hoennian of the trio, who works with the regional professor on Pokémon research. His starter is a male Treecko named Fern.
  • Kidd Chavignol. He's from Lumiose City in the Kalos region, and while initially uninterested in Pokémon, he gets interested in contests and becomes a coordinator. His starter is a shiny female Mudkip named Aquarius.
  • Professor Tom Nook. He's from Goldenrod City in Johto and researches Pokémon adaptation to natural habitats. His first Pokemon is an Oddish.
  • Apollo Hawkwind. He's Hoenn's current Pokémon League Champion and specializes in Steel types. His first Pokémon is a shiny Beldum named Servo.
  • Frank Hawkwind. An aloof ally to the boys, he comes and goes as he pleases due to a tragedy in the family. His first Pokémon was a female Croagunk named Belladonna.
