Paul Freehafer was an early science fiction fan and member of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society, which he headed in 1943. According to Fancyclopedia, he resisted various political movements within fandom including Esperanto, Technocracy and Michelism, and remained uninvolved with the furious debate that consumed several years of science fiction fandom from 1937 to 1941. He attended Chicon I and Denvention I.
Freehafer died in 1944 of a heart condition, and his friend Forrest J Ackerman published a special issue of Polaris in his honor.
