Party banter is a video-game trope involving characters exchanging dialogue outside cutscenes or direct interactions. This typically involves NPCs accompanying the player speaking during combat or while travelling around the game's world. It may be included by writers to lessen the monotony of levelling and exploration, or as a way of conveying non-essential plot details, characterization, and world-building.
Banter is a prominent feature of games in the Dragon Age franchise and is sometimes replicated in fanworks.
