The One Direction Big Bang is an annual Big Bang challenge with a current minimum word count requirement of 25,000 words. It allows "mixers, vidders, and any other kind of traditional art medium (drawing, painting, manips, you name it!)" to pair with each writer.[1] The fics are allowed to be multifandom, any pairing, and any rating, as long as at least one member of One Direction is featured.

History

  • Round One: The minimum word count for this round was 15,000. There were over 100 sign-ups for Round One, and 27 completed fics were posted between February-March 2013. Over half were Harry/Louis stories, with all other pairings falling far behind.
  • Round Two: The second round nearly doubled its participants, with 60 completed fics posted between January-March 2014.
  • Round Three: Round Three raised the minimum word count to 20,000 words. Still, it saw approximately 70 fics published between February-April 2015. A mod post on 1dbigbang's Tumblr mentions 80 fics from this Round; it is unclear if this number includes fics that were deleted or withheld after Zayn Malik's departure from the band that March, or that are simply not available on the AO3 profile. Harry/Louis continued to be the most popular pairing, though Zayn/Liam and Louis/Liam had a respectable showing.
  • Round Four: Approximately 90 fics were published as part of Round Four between February-April 2016. Harry/Louis was the most popular pairing by more than double the next most popular ship (Liam/Louis).
  • Round Five: The minimum word count requirement was raised to 25,000. Approximately 60 completed fics were posted in mid-2017, most of which were Larry.
  • Round Six: Signups for Round Six were advertised in late 2017 for posting in April 2018. As of May 17, 2018, no updates have been posted through any official channels since January 2018.
