Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint is a fandom based on a webnovel by Sing-Shong (also stylized as singNsong) that has also been adapted into a webcomic.

Canon Overview

Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint centers on Kim Dokja, a young salaryman and the only remaining reader of the webnovel Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World, which has been ongoing for ten years. When the novel begins playing out in real life, he decides that his best hope of surviving the coming apocalypse is to use his knowledge of the plot and characters. However, reading about an apocalypse is very different than actually surviving one.

The original webnovel was 155 chapters long, and is available in English through NovelUpdates. The webcomic adaptation, which is illustrated by UMI, is ongoing and available via Webtoon.

Fandom Overview

Shipping

The majority of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint fanfiction is focused on shipping, including slash, het, and femslash. However, the focus given to platonic connections in canon means that there is a fair amount of gen fanfic as well.

As of April 2022, the most popular slash pairing on AO3 is Kim Dokja/Yoo Joonghyuk, while the most popular femslash ship is Han Sooyong/Yoo Sangah, and the most popular het ship is Jung Heewon/Lee Hyunsung.[1]

Both portmanteau shipnames (such as Joongdok for Yoo Joonghyuk/Kim Dokja) and denoting ships with a slash or x is common in the fandom.

Character Names

  • Abbreviations: Among fans, it is common to shorten character names to three-letter abbreviations representing the three syllables of the character's name, such as shortening Yoo Sangah to YSG.
  • Romanization: As is common with translated media, there is some disagreement regarding the romanization of certain names. For example, Yoo Joonghyuk is also spelled Yoo Joonghyeok.
  • Multiple Names: Some characters in the novel use multiple names over the course of the plot, for various reasons. In some cases, fans will use these names to indicate which versions of the characters they are discussing/creating fanworks about.
