Obligala (presumably short for "obligatory gala") is a term used for those fanfics where characters are forced to go to a work function they'd rather not attend. It's used in X-Files fandom, also in Law & Order and possibly other fandoms.[1]
One of the more notable examples is the Shortest Obligala Ever Written by shannono.
To a lesser extent, fanfiction in other fandoms also features reluctant gala participants, but the term obligala isn't used. future!fic and auror!fic in the Harry Potter fandom may involve at least one gala.
