Nobuta wo Produce is the story of a very shy young woman named Nobuko Kotani, who has been bullied by classmates for most of her life. Upon transferring to a new school, Nobuko meets Shuji Kiritani (one of the school's most popular boys), and odd-duck Akira Kusano. The two boys team up to "produce" Nobuko (nicknamed Nobuta).

The 10-episode series follows the boys' attempts to help Nobuta gain acceptance at school. More importantly, the story shows the growing friendship between Nobuta, Shuji, and Akira.

The Fandom

While the canon is well-known among J-drama fans, the fandom remains relatively small. The fandom is dominated by slash (Shuji/Akira). There is also some OT3 (Shuji/Nobuta/Akira), het, and femslash fanfic to be found.

Ties to RPF

The two male leads are played by popular actor/singers from Johnny's Entertainment. Shuji is played by Kazuya Kamenashi (of KAT-TUN), and Akira by Tomohisa Yamashita (Yamapi of News). In order to promote the series, they were temporarily banded together as the duo "Shuji to Akira."

Nobuta wo Produce and Shuji to Akira are another set of links between the various bands and idols in the JE RPF fandom.
