Nicolo di Genova, primarily called Nicky is a character from The Old Guard. In the 2020 Netflix film adaptation, he is played by Italian actor Luca Marinelli.

Canon Overview

As a member of the titular Old Guard, Nicky is an immortal warrior. Once a Christian priest, he joined the Crusades and was present at the Siege of Jerusalem in 1099, where he realized he cannot die. In the comics, Nicky still wears a Crusader-style red cross over his clothes during missions, though this detail was omitted from the film. He is the team's primary sniper and is seen wielding a medieval two-handed longsword in battle as well.

A Netflix promotional poster from Thailand gives his birthdate as 1069, making him 30 years old when he gained immortality.

There is some discrepancy as to the spelling of Nicky's "original" name; "Genoa" is the English spelling of the city's name, while "Genova" is the spelling in Italian.

Common Tropes

  • Nicky as "The Heart" of the team - many fans have pointed out (through gifsets) that Nicky is the one who shows the most concern and care when welcoming Nile Freeman onto the team, as well as dedication in doing the right thing and fighting against injustice.

Pairings

The canon slash pairing of Joe/Nicky is largely the biggest component of works featuring Nicky.
