Musichetta is a minor character in Les Misérables, mentioned only in passing as Joly's (and to some extent, Bossuet's) mistress.
Fandom
Although Musichetta has only a passing mention in the book, segments of the fandom took great interest in the character, inventing a personality, and backstory beyond her connection to Les Amis. In 2022 there were over two thousand works under the Musichetta character tag on ao3, which fans pointed out was more than four times as many as Fantine, a character with much greater presence in the original book.[1]
(Two other female characters to receive similar fandom invetion are Floréal and Louison, though the latter two do not have nearly as many works on AO3.)
Relationships
Fanon
- Musichetta is often a barista in Modern AU works and often works at the Café Musain.
- Musichetta is often depicted as woman of color. In Modern AUs, she is often depicted as black, while it tends to differ more in Canon Era works.
- Musichetta as a "hard femme feminist icon" [1]
