Gundam 00 is a 2009 mecha anime, the 11th installment in the long-running Gundam franchise.
The anime follows a group of terrorists equipped with advanced technology who threaten to fight anyone who engages in conflict as a method of preventing war.
Canon Overview
Gundam 00 aired in Japan on two channels, Mainichi Broadcasting System and Tokyo Broadcasting System. The first season ran from October 2007 to March 2008, while the second began in October 2008 and ended in March 2009. The movie, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer, which is a direct sequel to the series, was released in Japanese theaters in September 2010. The series was licensed in the US by Bandai Entertainment, and aired on the Sci-Fi Channel's Ani-Monday Block [1]starting in November 2008, with the second season starting in November 2009. Bandai also released both seasons and the movie on DVD in the U.S., but after the company closed, it went out of print. In 2015, Sunrise Entertainment announced that they were taking over distribution of the series.
In the Philippines, Gundam 00 aired on the Toonami Block of Cartoon Network Philippines. In Europe, the series is licensed by Beez Entertainment.

There is also a series of side stories drawn by Yun Kouga, and a series of character songs recorded by some of the voice actors.
Fandom Overview
This article or section needs expansion. |
When Gundam 00 first aired on TV, a wide range of fans were introduced to the series. This, paired with the character designs by known shounen-ai mangaka Kouga Yun, resulted in a large number of female fans despite the fact that mecha fandom can sometimes be hostile to that demographic.

Shipping
In this fandom, much of the shipping focuses on the main team of protagonists, or on canon pairings. Het and slash are the most common, though there are a few femslash pairings. The Locktie pairing (involving Neil Dylandy and Tieria Erde) is notable for being a slash pairing that many fans feel was heavily implied in canon.
Some of the most common pairings include:
- Setsuna/Marina or SetsuMari
- Setsuna/Neil or Lockset
- Setsuna/Graham
- Neil/Tieria or Locktie
- Neil/Allelujah
- Neil/Feldt
- Allelujah/Marie or AlleMarie
- Allelujah/Hallelujah
- Lyle/Hallelujah
- Lyle/Anew
- Lyle/Neil
- Tieria/Setsuna
- Tieria/Regene
- Saji/Louise or SajiLouise
- Billy/Graham or Akugiri
- Billy/Sumeragi
- Lichtendahl/Christina or Christendahl
Despite the wide range of pairings available in the fandom, there is a significant contingent of the fandom that is more focused on Gen works and platonic relationships.
Threesome pairings are also popular in some parts of the fandom, specifically Allelujah/Neil/Tieria. Finally, there is a tendency to ship the characters Setsuna F. Seiei and Graham Aker with their robots, due to the way they talk about their machines in canon. In most of fandom this is treated as a joke, but because Setsuna's robot was personified as a young woman in one of the openings, and because some people are interested in human/machine ships, there are certain people who are more serious about these ships.
Tropes & Fanon
Over time, certain trends in Gundam 00 fanfiction have emerged.
- Fix-it fics: Due to the large number of character deaths, this trope and the related Everybody Lives are popular. These fics often focus on the Season 1 finale as a point of divergence. A subset of this trope includes time travel.
- Futurefic: Fics continuing the character's arcs after the series are very common. A common Additional Tag on Archive of Our Own is Post-Gundam 00: A Wakening of the Trailblazer.
- Character Study: This type of fic is popular, possibly due to the show's large cast, many of whom had limited screentime.
- Timeskip fics: A number of fics are written during the four year gap between season one and season two.
Additionally, there are certain pieces of fanon that have come to be commonly accepted by fans:
- Neil Dylandy wears gloves due to burn scars on his hands.
