Reactions and Reviews

UNCLE agent Mary Sue Bodine is living the dream. She's picked up *both* Napoleon and Illya and is taking them home to her bed. Only things work out a little differently than Mary Sue expected.

When I first started reading MFU, about nine months ago, a number of people recommended Blondie's stories, and this one in particular. I loved it immediately and re-read it often when I'm looking for something clever, light and funny. There's also some fine characterization and deep emotion swirling around, if you can stop laughing long enough. And when I laugh at this story, I am most certainly laughing at myself. (Note the name of the main character *G*.)

In spite of the premise, this is definitely a slash story. A hilarious one.[1]

Whoohoo! I love this one. You're right, it's funny, sweet, and also surprisingly hot, with an undercurrent of real emotion, despite the silly edge.[2]

She's a good writer. I wish she had more stuff online. :) [3]

This is one of those stories I would never have read by description alone. But it was Blondie, and I enjoy most of her stuff, so I dived in. It's great! I think what makes it work is that Mary Sue is a strong, self-fulfilling female character, not your typical Mary Sue. So to speak. *g* I adore this story and have read it many times when I'm in the mood for something light and sexy.[4]

It's also funny how some fanon cliche's that would bug me in another story just don't bother me at all in this one. :-) [5]

I agree with you. I totally buy the IK/NS dynamic here even though it's not necessarily the one I believe in my head. The tone is so tongue in cheek that I would let her get away with anything. Plus it's hot. Hot is good.[6]

Frankly, the description of this one is right up my alley *G* but I know that kind of thing isn't for everyone. I like the way she confounds our expectations -- or my expectations, at least. I can't say that I like women like Mary Sue in real life, but I agree that she's not a typical MS. She's fun to inhabit for the duration of this story, she's got a great sense of humor, and she's a damned good sport. :) [7]

I should clarify that. *g* Threesome good, Mary Sue bad. I'd read a threesome (and how sad that there aren't many at all), but the minute it reads transparently as an author insert/Mary Sue, it gives me the heebyjeebies. Not to mention how many stories accomplish this by some serious OOC activity from the guys.

Absolutely! She's a believable person. Blondie wrote Napoleon and Illya so distinctly and personably in this one that she had to write a female character to match that, or it would have read like a Mary Sue. And I like the fact that she's unashamed about her likes and what she feels.[8]

One of a very, very few threesomes that worked for me. And there's a Mary Sue! (No, really, her name is Mary Sue. I'm not kidding.) I howled. Plus, the NS/IK interaction just sizzles.[9]

The zine leads off with a strong and very funny story from Blondie. Ménage à Trois is a Mary Sue of a different stripe, wherein a female agent thinks she's getting her own fantasy but finds herself outmaneuvered by the master strategist himself. Napoleon knows what he wants and takes advantage of an opportunity. 12 steamy, hilarious pages. This story is online.[10]
