Excerpts

Q: What made you start writing stories? Had you written fic in other fandoms?

A: I was a professional writer in non-fiction and science fiction when I got involved in Miami Vice slash fandom in the early 90s. So I'd already written a lot of MV fic, but was on my way out of that fandom when I fell into SH. There was such a wealth of good fic in the fandom (this was pre-internet, so it was all zines) I didn't see much point in trying to write in SH, but Suzan Lovett convinced me I had something to say that people needed to read.

Q: What was your first story? Do you still like it?

A: My first story in SH was actually two -- I started writing Total Eclipse of the Heart and Crystal Blue Persuasion at the same time. I knew Total Eclipse would be a stand alone novel, and I wanted to write a shorter piece I could get published in a zine that would explore issues stemming from Shootout and tie it into a piece of Suzan Lovett's art. I'm still happy with Total Eclipse, but I was never that happy with Crystal Blue Persuasion. I hadn't seen all the episodes and I didn't really feel like I knew the guys well enough.

Q: What is your favorite story that you wrote? In the fandom?

A: I haven't looked at my own fic in a while, but I'd have to say my favorite story of my own is one that I get almost no feedback from: If Love Is Real: Helen. My favorite story of others? I'd have to go back to the story that got me in the fandom: A Fine Storm by Suzan Lovett.
