Mea Culpa is a digital zine featuring characters from the Ace Attorney game series. The theme of the zine is exploring potential bad endings in the games.
About
The zine was announced on December 14, 2022, as a non-profit, digital fanzine[1]. Interest checks for the zine opened on December 17, 2022, and closed on January 14, 2023[2]. Over 150 responses were reported to have been submitted[3].
Applications for an art mod opened on January 2, 2023, then closed on January 15, 2023[4][5]. Mod application results were sent on January 18, 2023[6]. Applications for page artists, merch artists, fanfiction writers, and flash fanfiction writers opened on January 21, 2023[7]. Applications closed on February 25, 2023[8]. Results were emailed on March 5, 2023, and a full contributor lineup was posted on March 22nd[9][10].
Preorders opened on Gumroad on September 1, 2023, and would stay open until September 30th[11]. All money made on the project would be donated to the Transgender Law Center. While the zine itself was distributed for free, fans could pay a minimum of $4 USD for both the zine and a merch bundle featuring digital stickers, icons, digital wallpapers, and any unlocked stretch goals. Such stretch goals included extra wallpapers and an emote pack[12].
Preordered zines were sent out on October 1, 2023[13]. The zine was re-released for free on November 1, 2023, via a link on Google Drive[14]. The organizers promised that donation receipts would be posted within the week following the free digital release, but have yet to post such details.

Engagement Campaigns
To boost engagement, the project's social media account ran multiple polls for fans to decide the outcome of an interactive short story. The first poll was posted on December 21, 2022, portraying Fraziska von Karma as the defendant of a trial[15]. Fans were asked to choose the victim of the trial, and the majority of the votes went to Miles Edgeworth. A second poll was posted on February 10, 2023, to decide who Franziska's defense lawyer would be, and most votes went to Phoenix Wright[16].
