"Maybe One Day..." is a ficlet by trueriver based on Mary Renault's 1953 novel The Charioteer. Set between the first two chapters, in the summer before Laurie goes away to boarding school, "Maybe One Day..." expands on an incident that was mentioned in the novel.
Mrs Timmings comes downstairs in the morning to find that Laurie has spent the night curled up with his new puppy, who is not allowed upstairs.
The story inspired a flurry of discussion on whether Laurie would have been attending a boarding school or a day school, as well as a discussion of Airedale terriers.
