Reactions and Reviews

Summary: In the summer of 1971, Grace and her friend Joy are exploring a crafts fair. While Joy is having her fortune read, Grace gets something to drink. She starts to get anxious because the sights, sounds and smells are making her nauseous. She’s hoping that Joy will finish soon, since her friend often is able to help her through these mysterious hyper-sensitivity episodes. Just as she’s about to lose control, a lost toddler approaches her, taking her mind off her troubles.

Reccer’s Notes: I’m a sucker for back-stories and Autumn gives us a lot of them: Jim’s absent mom and why she might have left, where Jim inherited his sentinel senses, what kind of a kid Jim was, what kind of kid Blair was, and Naomi and Blair’s early life together. It also touches on whether being a guide is natural versus something you can learn. Did Grace’s friend have the guide “touch”? We know Blair does. Enjoy.[1]
