Many Paths to Tread is a Tolkien fanworks archive that opened on July 27, 2009 as a sister site to the LotR GenFic Community and the LOTR Community Challenges on Live Journal. Initially, the archive was open solely to the members of those groups, but opened to the public on January 1, 2010. The archive is run by the mods who oversee the sister sites: Dreamflower, Dawn Felagund, and Rhapsody. Founders ceshaughnessy, Pearl Took, as well as Celeritas are on indefinite hiatus, due to varying factors in real life that limits their fannish participation.
MPTT welcomes a wide range of Tolkien-based fiction, as well as non-fiction and the artwork of its members. Stories can be set in any Age of Arda, feature any of the Races of Middle-earth, and have a rating up to "R".
The LJ Community's Challenge Stories are housed there as well. Works that fall within the ratings guidelines are all welcome at MPTT.
The first anniversary of the opening was celebrated with the addition of a new, intricate "skin" crafted by the archive's webmaster, Dawn Felagund. The site already has a set of unique, interchangeable skins, also created by Dawn.
On the third anniversary of the archive, MPTT launched the Tree and Flower Awards, a fan favorites award for stories posted on the site. MPTT recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, and launched the third Tree and Flower Awards.
As of August 2014, MPTT boasts 2,615 stories, 244 members, 128 authors, 2,604 reviews, 143 series and 11,520,380 words.
Many Paths to Tread is based in the Yahoo! Group, LOTR_Community_GFIC[1] and its sister group lotr_community[2].
In July 2022, Many Paths to Tread went offline for reasons unknown and has remained offline since.
