Making Fannish Music Videos is an instructional manual on the making and editing of VCR/analog fan made music videos. It was published in the 1990s and was revised at least three times to take into account advances in VCR technology.
- "You don't have to be crazy, but it helps. More specifically, since making fannish videos involves so much detail and repetition, it helps if you're just a little bit compulsive." ~ Introduction to "Making Fannish Music Videos".
Manual
The manual focuses mainly on VCR vidding and editing but by the third revision in 1997, there is mention of computer vidding. Chapters cover VCR equipment, how to properly connect your VCRs, how to edit with videotape, song editing, timing, and of course, copy-guard protection on commercial VHS tapes. While the manual there it offers stylistic guidance such as whether title cards should be used and special effects usage.
