In many fanarts of Majin Sonic, the design detail of a mustache is present because some fans thought the shading of the cheekbone was a jab to Mario. Later, a fan with the username Linkabel asked the character designer of Majin Sonic, Masato Nishimura, in a Twitter DM if Majin Sonic has a mustache or if it is the cheekbones' shadow. Masato Nishimura responded that it is the cheekbones' shadow.
