Luminescence is a zine centered around the pairing SoRiku from the Kingdom Hearts games. The theme of the zine was "stars".

About

Luminescence is a SoRiku-zine with the theme of “stars” that aims to depict their relationship throughout the series.

Contributors will focus on portraying Sora and Riku’s journey throughout the series, all the way from their childhood until the end of events from the current saga. However, there will be some leeway for canon-divergence, to a point.[1]

The zine was announced on March 21, 2019, with an interest check[2]. Due to great response, interest checks closed on March 29, 2019[3]. In a post containing results from the interest check, a reported 134 responses were received, with a majority voting for the zine to be for profit[4].

Writers applications opened on April 12, 2019, while artist and merch artist applications opened a week later on April 19, 2019[5]. Writer applications would end on May 15, 2019, and artist and merch applications would end on May 17, 2019[6]. Acceptance emails were sent out by May 26, 2019[7].

Preorders opened on September 20, 2019 with the following pricing tiers[8]:

  • Paopu Edition ($12 USD) - Digital Zine
  • Soulmate Edition ($20 USD) - Physical Zine
  • Destiny Bundle ($35 USD) - Physical Zine, Acrylic Charms, Sticker Sheet, Print

Digital zines could be added onto physical purchases for $3 USD. Stretch goals included digital wallpaper at 10 total orders, a button at 20 physical orders, an additional print at 30 physical orders, and a standee at 100 physical orders. An early bird preorder bonus of a bookmark was offered for the first 50 physical preorders. A new stretch goal, a star shaped button for Destiny Bundles, was added with a set goal of 200 physical orders[9]. Preorders closed on October 18, 2020, with a reported total of 31 digital zine orders, 34 physical zine orders, and 159 physical and merch orders[10].

Physical orders began shipping out by December 14, 2019[11]. The last of physical orders were sent out on December 18, 2019[12]. Digital copies of the zine were mailed out on January 10, 2020[13].

Leftover sales began on February 3, 2020[14]. leftovers closed by March 1, 2020[15].

The zine's social media accounts would later be renamed and repurposed for the production team's next project, Infinitum.
