Loyalty Check is a 217-page gen Battlestar Galactica (1978) digest-sized novel by Fran Severn. It has a sequel, Tally of the Souls.
Summary from a publisher, Agent With Style:
This shows a different view of the aftermath of 'The Return of Starbuck.' Why wouldn't Commander Adama let anyone go back after Starbuck? How could his friends accept that? When several Warriors decide to disobey a direct order and go back to find their missing pilot, political machinations run rampant throughout the fleet as Sire Uri tries to rig the Council elections, using the very actions of Adama's Warriors against him. In one hell of a night at the O Club, Athena reaches her emotional limits and lashes out in a way Reese, Cutler and Bojay will never forget. Meanwhile, Starbuck, marooned and facing the certainty of his abandonment, scrapes out a life on his barren prison -- until his run-in with the local fauna threathens even that. This novel overflows with action, but also explores the questions of responsibilities, loyalties, ambitions, love and how they interact and often conflict in the lives of these Colonials on the run from the Cylons.

Fun. I liked the interplay between Lucifer and Spectre. And nice to have a view of the Cylon Empire. Good story. [1]
I am so excited to see this here. I've been looking for this and Homecoming for quite a while. Thank you for taking the time to post your stories. [2]
Nearly three years into this pandemic, this line really hits home:
There was nothing they could do but adjust and hope for the future. Oof. Truth bomb. [3]
what are you doing with me First the dogfight and then Cassiopeia. I can't get out of the scary moments. And even though I know Starbuck is still alive, I sat here and cried. Cassie's breakdown really hit me...just wanted to leave that here for a moment. Now I'm off to the next chapters. We'll text each other again. I hope I have made myself clear.[4]
