Reactions and Reviews
I'm usually not one for AU-type art, but this color illo by Liz is just too stunning not to appreciate. Here we see a longhaired 'warrior' Spock sitting in solitude on a mountain. I love a frontispiece in a zine. I think it's classy, and a nice way to showcase a lovely piece of art like this. [1]
Beautiful color drawing of a long-haired (and almost naked) warrior Spock, holding a sword and sitting on a rock ledge amid a landscape of ragged, rocky peaks. I really like the restrained use of color and the way the almost geometrical shadows delineating the planes of Spock’s face seem to echo his stark surroundings. This drawing very successfully conveys the austere and lonely nature of both the setting and the warrior himself. I love a frontispiece in a zine. I think it's classy, and a nice way to showcase a lovely piece of art like this. [2]
I'm amazed at Liz's versatility when it comes to art. Pencil, oil, pen, watercolour or whatever kind of media you put in her hands, she's making beautiful art. This one to me is rather haunting and evocative. I'm wondering what put this Spock in this barren landscape all by himself. Is he going through his kahs-wan? And where's the Jim Kirk of this universe? [3]
I must confess to being partial to the way a long haired AU warrior Spock looks, so I enjoyed this picture a lot. Yes, this AU warrior Spock does look brooding and lonely with Kirk nowhere to be seen in this picture! I love the colors and jagged peaks in the background—very evocative of Vulcan. Nice work, Liz!
