A fitting title. An alternative ending to Inquisition that stretches over many years. Once again Nightbird struts her stuff in putting the good doctor through 10 different kinds of hell only to come to a point where he is left to make not much of a choice between two evils. The story goes back and forth between following Julian's return from the abyss he was sent into courtesy of Section 31 and following the attempts of his friends first to find him and then to help him. And the saddest thing is that you go through the story waiting and waiting for Sisko to ride in to Bashir's rescue, which eventually he sort of does, but in the end it doesn't even make a difference in Bashir's life. He starts out in the story a prisoner and remains one to the bitter end. And by the time he reaches the end, he's so resigned to his fate, there's a small sense that's he's looking forward to it. Another piece of great, dark drama by Nightbird. [1]
