I like stories that explore the mystical elements of The Sentinel universe. I like a sense of destiny. I'm a big sucker for meant to be. "Legend or Die" brings all this together beautifully. In a distant time, the sentinel Walks Contented protects The People with the help of his guide Farwalker. In modern-day Cascade, Jim and Blair wake, having had the same dream. This story is lyrically written, imaginative, a complete world brought vividly to life. Check out the companion piece too, Dream or Memory.[1]
I love all Merri-Todd's writing, but this story and follow-up are my favorites. In another time, the sentinel Walks Alone takes the beautiful stranger Farwalker for his mate and guide. In present day Cascade, a matching bracelet and necklace bring Jim and Blair dreams, or is it memories, of another, distant life.[2]
