Reactions and Reviews

"Leaving Room 101" by Nova is 9 pages long. I dislike the title, but I like the story. Actually I disliked the titles of all three of Nova's stories. Nova writes really good stories in general. She's dependable for quality. This is angsty. Avon has betrayed them under duress.[1]

I love this one - definitely one of my favourite Novas. Beautiful examination of guilt and self-forgiveness (we'll return to this theme for the final fic of the zine), and very interesting and unusual depiction of Avon breaking under interrogation. I also love the way it moves into a sex scene. And I love the way the crew work in this fic. Basically, it is excellent. Interestingly the other two Novas in this zine are amongst my least favourite. Never mind. I suppose it balances.[2]

Another set of Blake/Avon first person narratives. Leaving Room 101 is a discussion of guilt, the kind of thing that would break Avon (thus the title) and getting past guilt. It's mostly about B and A, but the crew have a very important role to play thematically and some brilliant scenes.[3]

‘You could try loving someone who is still alive - someone with a demonstrated interest in staying that way,’ I decided I like this fic better than Political Education (but again, the Education fic wasn’t on the bad side). The teamwork was really good, each part of it, they all shared different kind of wisdom, it is exactly what I like about Nova’s fics, she made good uses of other characters, like she did in Songs of Innocent and Experienced- I feel this author normally has this kind of witty tone in her stories (and I kinda resonate with some of her elements in characterization on other characters, I mean Bryan did that as well) [4]
