"Meet my Dragons" is one example of the Merthur Comics that lao is well known for. The caption read: "This little prince should be man enough to be his beloved warlock’s boyfriend? Not to mention that he is too tiny to be the Once and Future King who weights such a big destiny on his shoulders. Kilgharrah is not convinced yet…" The artist went on to add in tags: "I love Kilgharrah I need more of him."
Waking Up in Avalon was created to celebrate a fandom anniversary. Many in the Merlin fandom post art, fic, gifs or other fan creations around the December holiday period to commemorate the end of the series in 2013. The artist included the following in the work's tags: "just wanted to draw an underwater kiss, I told it's not going to be sad maybe it's not really cheerful thinking about it, but hey a kiss is never not cheerful hehe. happy anniversary and Merry Christmas."
Distant Echoes was created as a story cover for writer sara bochan's After Camlann Big Bang fanfiction in 2017. In the caption was an excerpt from the story: “I really have to go now,” Merlin whispered into his ear, nuzzling his nose into Arthur’s hair. Arthur sighed and pulled back, only to be drawn back in for a short but meaningful kiss. He smiled at Merlin when they finally parted and held onto his hand as long as he could, while Merlin slowly turned and walked towards the check-in gates. He squeezed Arthur’s fingers one last time before he let go and fully turned away."
This set of images was created to fulfill an anonymous request for the pairing as high school boyfriends, although the artist regretted not having done more, due to an injury: "The Request was so sweet, I wish I could have done more but in my current state, I couldn’t finish it ;_; so only super soft colours for super soft Highschool boyfriends." Lao notes "I couldn't even finish the lineart and I drew Merlin left handed."
A Prophecy of Dragons was created as a cover for the work of Skitz_phenom who wrote the story for Lao. The caption is taken from the story and reads: “Let it be known that shall come the day when the greatest among us are no more but one. Only stone shall remain. Into that time, among our small-boned kin shall be borne the last of his kind, a lord who shall bear our mark. Upon his ready arm will rest our likeness and through him shall come about the time of our greatest peace.” The image was large enough that, like quite a few pieces of fan art on Tumblr, it had to be posted in two parts.
The story "Poetry" by Guessimaclotpole had a full color illustration by lao_pendragon but the art and text was interactive as well. Lao created a number of story dividers such as the one above. In the tale Leon, our POV character, experiences different emotions as he observes Arthur and Merlin interact. These feelings are reflected in the different story dividers as he moves through concern, surprise, regret and more as the story progresses.
