LOTR_Costume was an email discussion group. The topic was costume creation from the Lord of the Rings movies.
It was created on January 8, 2002 by Cat Devereaux. It had heavy traffic through 2006. As of October 2019, it had 3188 members.
The last post was on March 22, 2019. The group, like all other Yahoo!Groups, went defunct as a result of the Yahoo! Groups Content Purge of December 2019. It is unknown if it was backed up and/or restarted on another service.
Description
Join us to discuss the costumes in the Lord of the Rings movies. Peter Jackson and his crew have created a wonderful detailed world of costumes and beyond. We're going to examine any and all aspects of costuming from LOTR. We help you research and build your own outfit.
We are open for people who want to make the costumes or just discuss them... Any skill level - beginning to advanced. We're just here to research and have fun enjoying the costumes.
NO SELLING or BUYING of finished costumes here. That means, no asking to BUY/SELL or discussing such. Only exception is authorized reproductions. (When in doubt, ask the moderators off line.) We are RESEARCH ONLY and worked hard to keep it that way.[1]

The LOTR_Costume group was created as an offshoot of the f-costume Usenet mailing list.[2]
First Post
Welcome to our discussion of Lord of the Rings costumes from Peter Jackson's movie. We will cover anything and everything related to the costumes and try to do it for any skill level as well. So anything related to costumes including techniques is "in topic". This board is not going to be "moderated" so much as watched over by a few "den moms"... so let's go have fun and research!!!!!!
If you are researching a costume and have a question. Post the link, not the picture, please. We are going to be sticklers about copyright rules. (Anyway, there's enough out on the web breaking the rules that with a little research, you will find what you need.)
If you're researching a costume, let the board know... you can get together with others that are going seriously into a specific costume.
Research will not be lost. Results will get summarized and posted to a web site I'm working on this weekend.
Consider the help wanted sign hung out. Desperately could use a sketch artist or two. Also, need someone gun-ho about the armor and fighting stuff to spearhead some of those discussion.
