Knotinmyname was a week long event/challenge that ran from June 12-18 2023. It was created as a response to AI scrapers getting content from fanworks to generate new content; The purpose being to pollute AI-generated content with omegaverse content.
At the end of the event, there was a total of 144 works across 88 fandoms on AO3. Since ending, the collection has remained open for new works and currently sits at 181 works across 105 fandoms as of February 2024.[1]
The event can be considered part of a larger conversation regarding AI in Fandom.
Description
An event to pollute the AI scrapers by creating as much Omegaverse content as we can across as many fandoms as possible.
We refuse to allow AI scrapers to pollute the fanfic communities. We will use our ability to write really weird things to make scraped data stolen from our communities nonsensical, or at least not profitable.
Prompt Lists
There was a main prompt list[2] and another "key phrases" list given out for the event. The prompt list acted as a normal list to give writers ideas for their fics while the key phrases list would serve as a list of phrases that could be traced if the works containing them were ever scraped and/or showed up in AI-generated text.[3]

Fan Opinions
There were mixed opinions on the event mainly surrounding how effective the idea would be at its goal of AI generators only giving out omegaverse. The main concern raised was that because the data being currently used on generators such as ChatGPT had already been scraped then there was no point in flooding the site with omegaverse written by those unfamiliar with the genre for the sake of anti-AI sentiments.
This is a terrible idea. The only way this might do something is if someone knows when the next web crawler scraping is going to take place. The data being used currently for ChatGPT and other AIs was scraped months ago. AO3 has taken the necessary and available steps to prevent web crawlers from scraping the site. That idea also assumes that everyone wants to write omegaverse. You’d end up with a bunch of crappy stories from people (and I completely include myself in this) who don’t know what they are doing and have no interest in it. That wouldn’t be fair to the actual fans (both readers and writers) of omegaverse.Either that or the idea is to tell the writer who do write this. “Okay, on the double. That’s all you get to write now.”
