Kill Six Billion Demons is an action-fantasy webcomic by Abbadon that began in 2013. It updates Tuesdays and Fridays, and consists of comic pages and lore updates that both explore the mythos, history, and mythology of the comic's universe. As of October 2023, it's now on its sixth and final book (or arc).

Canon

The comic follows Alison Ruth, an ordinary college woman, who is kidnapped (alongside her boyfriend, Zaid) and bestowed with a mystical and powerful artifact, the Key of Kings, mistaking her as the next Rising/Conquering King in the prophecy, after Zoss, the previous character with the aforementioned title. Alongside a slew of otherworldly friends (such as 82 White Chain, Ciocelle Cio von Estrella), foes (Incubus, Oskar) and other humans (Nyave, Maya), Alison must not only find a way out of this greater universe, canonically referred to as THRONE, but also put a permanent end to an endless wheel-shaped cycle in space and time that has plagued the former, whatever it may take.

Development

The comic began as a choose-your-own-adventure story on the MSPA forums, whereupon its plot literally mirrors that of its name - having Allison slay one billion demons, all by herself.[1] It since has taken shape into its current storyline and form, alongside a new narrative scope, beginning on April 2013.

Fandom Overview

The comic has a large following, with active Discord servers and a subreddit, and draws regular discussion in other webcomics' fan spaces. Even on the webcomic's pages themselves, commenters have taken upon themselves to replicate some of its atmosphere, often to comedic effect, through altering their nicknames and writing style to match that of the recurring characters', including those of the Angels', as well as the lore text itself.

Memes

Amongst the most prominent of K6BD-specific memes thus far is the catchphrase "Reach Heaven Through Violence"; it first appeared at the same time Maya was initially introduced, on Page 34 of Book 1. Although the phrase by itself has had a few slightly altered wordings, the fandom's general consensus remains on overcoming the self, amidst its literal intrepretation[2].

Other examples include "(insert character) is observant", a phrase used whenever someone agrees to a certain opinion, and Solid Dave, a wordplay of Solomon David, the purple key-bearing demiurge representing the sin of Pride.

Original Character Tournament

Abbadon has had hosted two Original Character Tournaments, in which fans and interested onlookers, to enter them, submit their own OCs to fight battles set within the world of the comic. Each round, two characters are paired up, and the owners of those characters must submit a short fancomic depicting the entire battle. Signups, rounds, and discussions were coordinated through a Discord server.

The first OCT, "The Ring of Power", was started in August 2019 [3] and drew over a dozen participants[4]. The second OCT, "War for Rayuba", began in January 2021[5] and drew nearly a thousand participants.[6] "War for Rayuba", for instance, occured around the demiurge fight arc against Jagganoth, one of the remaining seven demiurges which represented the red-blood sin of Wrath/Anger, amidst the razing of the titular city-state. The verdict eventually came in favor of the invaders.

Given the then-recent Imgur NSFW purge in mid-2023, several of the submitted fan comics for the latter event were later deemed permanently lost.
