Karl Thekla is a character in Dragon Age II.
Canon
Karl Thekla was a human mage initially taken by Templars to Kinloch Hold in Ferelden. While there, he became romantically involved with fellow mage Anders, but the couple were torn apart when Karl was transferred to the Gallows in Kirkwall. Anders escaped and went to Kirkwall in the hope of freeing Karl. Eventually, Anders attempted to rescue Karl with the help of Hawke, only to find that Karl had been made Tranquil (magically lobotomized). In a brief moment of lucidity, Karl begged Anders to mercy-kill him, stating he would "rather die mage than live as a templar puppet." Anders reluctantly complied with Karl's final request.
