Kanpai was a fan-run anime convention held in Coimbra, Portugal.

The con was planned by fans, with a membership system that allowed members to get some goodies and access to events through a yearly fee of 10€ which would be used to run the con. Volunteers were also welcomed. The Instituto Português da Juventude (IPJ), Portuguese Youth Institute, provided the space where the convention was held.

The fans who organized the event met and communicated through the forum of ClubOtaku, Portugal's oldest website dedicated to anime, manga and Japanese fan-culture.

It was the only anime con outside of Lisbon and Porto, which allowed fans from the centre region of Portugal to have a meeting place. The convention held many activities and events such as a tea ceremony, a Japanese language workshop, a manga workshop, a cosplay contest, a ramen stand and a cinema room where fans could watch Anime movies that hadn't gotten a national screening.

The con organizers also did interview style interventions, where they would meet people of various ages in the streets and cafés of Coimbra and ask them if they had any knowledge of anime, manga or Japanese culture. The interviewees would then, if unaware of the terms or culture, be given a quick explanation of the topics.
