Juvia Lockser & Gajeel Redfox is the friendship between the characters Juvia Lockser and Gajeel Redfox of Fairy Tail.
Canon background
Juvia Lockser and Gajeel Redfox were both elite members of Phantom Lord, the bitter rival of Fairy Tail. They are first shown interacting during the Tower of Heaven arc, and Juvia refers to Gajeel by the nickname "Gajee" or "Gajeel-kun". After joining Fairy Tail herself, Juvia reveals to her new friends that she invited Gajeel to join as well.
From then on, their friendship is shown in various understated moments scattered throughout the series.[1] While Juvia tends to be perpetually fixated on Gray Fullbuster, Gajeel is one of the few others with whom she has a notable relationship. They have mutual respect for each other as mages, and they support each other's happiness and personal development.
In their days as new Fairy Tail members, Juvia encourages Gajeel to connect with their new guildmates and cheers him on during his musical performance. During the Oración Seis arc, Juvia reveals that during their time in Phantom Lord, she and Gajeel worked together to defeat some of Oración Seis' smaller divisions. Late in the series, Juvia rushes to team up with Gajeel in his battle against Keyes. He is shocked when she is seemingly killed, and visibly pleased when she manages to defeat Keyes. Afterwards, Gajeel carries her as their group journeys to Porlyusica.
From the Volume 16 Limited Edition: Sorcerer Interview, when asked with whom she had a good relationship, Juvia replied, "Gajeel-kun."[2][3]
Fan community
Ultimately, Juvia & Gajeel tends not to get much direct focus in either canon or fandom, but it is still quite prominent among brOTPs. The Juvia & Gajeel friendship isn't uncommon as a side relationship in romance-oriented works (particularly concerning the juggernaut pairings Gruvia and Gajevy) in which Juvia and Gajeel may be each other's confidants and supporters in navigating their romantic pursuits.
It has been speculated that Juvia and Gajeel's friendship has been a needed source of support for them both, back when they were part of the toxic Phantom Lord guild, and then later as they worked to build trust and friendship with their new Fairy Tail guildmates.
Fans have noted that Gajeel seems to get along well with blue-haired girls, given his friendship with Juvia, his relative soft spot for fellow dragon slayer Wendy Marvell, and his romantic interest in Levy McGarden.
