Jericho is a television series following the residents of the town Jericho in Kansas after a nuclear apocalypse. Needless to say, fans of apocalypse scenarios found the post-disaster landscape interesting; the abbreviated second season also became an explicit critique of the Bush Doctrine and recent American politics.
Synopsis
One fine day, Denver blows up in a mushroom cloud visible from 400 miles away in the tiny town of Jericho in western Kansas. Television fails; telephones go dead; electricity disappears; and the motley citizens (and accidental visitors) of Jericho struggle to make sense and make their lives as they realize that not just Denver but most of the major cities in the US have gone kerblooey.
Jake Green, the bad boy son of the mayor and long absent from his hometown, happens to be home for a tense visit when things go down. His narrative is one of keeping the town together and alive through the winter, in parallel to his neighbor Robert Hawkins, a newcomer to town whose interest is broader, national, and conspiratorial. The tension of continually rescuing the small town and seeking answers for the national disaster occupy the series throughout.
Also there is a farmer named Stanley and his accidental guest Mimi, the IRS inspector, who discovers that living in a post-apocalyptic Kansas means killing your own chicken dinner. Dale is a gangly orphaned teenager who ends up the most important food-distributor (and later smuggler) in town; in the second season Major Beck arrives, along with the Army, but official rescue is not all it's cracked up to be.

you didnt mention Jericho fans, who not only sent over 40,000 lbs (costing over $50,000) of nuts to get their show put back on the air (and succeeded) which in turn were donated to food kitchens, local zoos and sent to the troops in iraq, but they also raised over $20,000 for the small town of greensburg who suffered almost complete destruction after tornadoes ripped through their kansas town.
